Baltic Sea Day at the Viimsi Open-Air Museum

19.August 2026

On Thursday, August 27, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., we look forward to seeing you at the Viimsi Open-Air Museum to celebrate the 6th Baltic Sea Day.

For Baltic Sea Day, the embassies and cultural institutes of the Baltic Sea countries, in collaboration with the Coastal Folk Museum (Viimsi Open Air Museum) and the Estonian Maritime Museum, have put together a program centered on the sea and the coast. The day’s motto, “The same sea within us all,” was written by an Estonian author Jaan Kaplinski.

The goal is to strengthen the sense of belonging to the Baltic Sea region and our cultural identity in all of us—especially among residents of coastal areas—and to raise awareness of our shared responsibility for protecting the Baltic Sea and its future. Baltic Sea Day is celebrated in all countries belonging to the Council of the Baltic Sea States: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, and Poland.

The Viimsi Open-Air Museum will be hosting fun, seaside-themed activities from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • Children’s Creative Workshops and Exhibitions
  • The Fisheries Information Center and Doris Pajumäe Talk About Fish
  • 6:00 p.m. — Let’s PLUNGE into the Baltic Sea together!

  • Estonian Folk Dance performance
  • Fishing Stories, Fish Tasting, and a Raffle
  • Storytime: Legends of the Baltic Sea

Admission is free!
Dress warmly, bring your swimsuit and a towel, and, if you have them, rubber shoes—the seabed around here is rocky.
